Story

Born in Lari, Kiambu County

MARCH 3RD, 1941

Today, with both sorrow and gratitude, we gather to celebrate the extraordinary life of our beloved Ruth Wakonyo Kabundu - a cherished mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many.

She graced this world for a remarkable 83 years, her journey filled with love, resilience, and an unwavering spirit that will forever be imprinted in our hearts.
Though her life was not without hardship, she faced each challenge with the kind of strength that only comes from deep faith and purpose.

Born and raised in Lari, Kiambu County, Ruth was the daughter of the late Simon Kanyeria Chege and Beth Wangui Kanyeria. She was a loving sister to the late Margaret Njango, Pauline Gathoni, David Chege, the late Esther Wanjiru, Josephine Njeri, and Rachel Wakanyi.

From an early age, Ruth demonstrated remarkable diligence, helping her parents with household duties and taking care of her siblings—a testament to the values of hard work and devotion that would characterize her life.

Her journey took her to Kalithiiria, Meru, where she married the late Stephen Kabundu Mukuongo, embarking on a new chapter of family life and building a
legacy rooted in love, determination and strength.

Life brought her both great joys and deep sorrows, including the profound loss of her beloved husband at a young age. Widowed at the young age of 28, Ruth
was left with the monumental task of raising six children—Catherine Thairora, Jane Wangui, Patrick Mukiri, Jacob Mbugua, David Mugambi, and Stephen
Chege. Through her enduring spirit and hard work, she ensured each of them grew up surrounded by love and the values she held dear.

She was not only a mother to her own children but a guiding light to many. Ruth was an aunt and cousin who loved bringing all her family members together and nurturing connections that spanned generations. Known for her compassion and tireless work ethic, she became a mentor, a guiding light, and a leader within her community, consistently sharing her wisdom and setting an inspiring example. Ruth’s entrepreneurial spirit was unmatched! She wore many hats—farmer, businesswoman, and, more recently, real estate developer.

Each endeavor bore the mark of her dedication and drive, leaving behind a legacy that her family and community deeply respect and admire. Her love for
entrepreneurship was evident in everything she touched, and she found joy in creating opportunities and paving a way forward for others. She was a source of
wisdom, a steady advisor, and a pace-setter for all who had the honor to know her. The legacy Ruth leaves behind lives on through her children, her daughters- and sons-in-law, Rufus Njihia, Linda, Yvonne, Hannah, and Tohwida, and her grandchildren—Kevin, Ivy, Steve, Natasha, Richmond, Bryant, Yeshua, Jayden, Zahra, Ngina, Samantha, Nailah, and Sofia—as well as her great-grandson, Travis.

Even as she bravely faced a long illness, Ruth remained a source of strength to us all. Her life was, and will always be, an inspiration—a testament to living with grace,
courage, and selflessness. Today, we not only mourn her passing but also celebrate a life richly lived and a legacy that will forever be remembered in the hearts of all
who were blessed to know her. May Mom’s Soul rest in eternal peace, cherished forever in our memories and our
hearts.
